LAMDA Solo Introductory exams are designed to develop confidence and basic communication skills, and to introduce the learner to the LAMDA suite of graded exams. These examinations are available for solo learners.

LAMDA Group Introductory exams are designed to develop confidence, and basic communication skills in a group setting, encouraging interaction and collaborative working.

Verse and Prose Anthology Volume 19

This anthology presents the set selection for Learners entering:
  • LAMDA graded exams in Communication: Speaking Verse and Prose (from 1 August 2019) for Entry Level to Grade 8
  • LAMDA Introductory graded exams (from 1 August 2019) at Stage One, Two and Three (Solo and Group)
With a foreword by Valerie Bloom, the collection includes carefully chosen verse and prose pieces from a wide variety of international authors – many of whom have been recognised for their craft: some are celebrated authors of the past and others are bestselling authors of today.

For the LAMDA exams student, the verse and prose pieces explore a range of diverse themes from around the world; providing the Learner with different characters and worlds to explore, while studying for their examinations and practicing their communication skills.

For the general reader, this anthology will allow you to immerse yourself in a varied collection of verse and prose. It can act as the starting point in discovering new authors, poetry and extracts of literature.

Acting Anthology Volume 4

This anthology presents the set selection of solo and duologue scenes for learners entering LAMDA graded exams in Performance: Acting (from 1 August 2019) at Levels One and Two.

With a foreword by Harriet Walter, a former LAMDA graduate, the collection includes solo and duologue scenes from published plays and novels as well as scenes which have been specifically written for this anthology.

Each scene is accompanied by a brief outline of the setting in which the characters find themselves, before they start to speak. Solo and duologues scenes have been carefully selected to vary in tone and style, allowing learners the opportunity to practice different techniques, with a breadth of characters and stories to explore beyond the pages of this anthology.

Communication syllabus - with effect from 1 August 2019

LAMDA graded exams in Communication are available in three subjects:
  • Speaking Verse and Prose – designed to develop the skills necessary for effective oral communication of the written word
  • Reading for Performance – designed to develop the skills necessary for reading aloud to an audience and devising a recital for performance
  • Speaking in Public – designed to develop the skills necessary for effective oral communication and public presentation
LAMDA graded exams in Communication reside on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and are open to learners of all ages. These qualifications are available at four Levels on the RQF: Entry Level (Entry 3), Level One, Level Two and Level Three.

Performance syllabus - with effect from 1 August 2019

LAMDA graded exams in Performance are available in three subjects:
  • Acting – designed to develop the skills necessary to communicate dramatic text to an audience
  • Devising Drama – designed to develop the skills necessary to devise a dramatic performance and present it to an audience
  • Miming – designed to develop the skills necessary to create a performance using mime
LAMDA graded exams in Performance reside on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and are open to learners of all ages. These qualifications are available at four Levels on the RQF: Entry Level (Entry 3), Level One, Level Two and Level Three.

These examinations are offered in three formats: solo for Acting Devising Drama and Mime, duologue for Acting, Devising Drama and Mime and combined available at Level One and Level Two for Acting.

LAMDA graded Group examinations offer a variety of opportunities for Learners to develop and transfer skills in group work, across a range of subjects.

This publication contains the syllabi for the following examinations:
  • LAMDA Group Acting (available from Entry to Grade 8) – helps develop the skills necessary to communicate a dramatic text in a group to an audience
  • LAMDA Group Devising Drama (available from Entry to Grade 8) – helps develop the skills necessary to devise a dramatic performance in a group and present it to an audience
  • LAMDA Group Musical Theatre (available from Entry to Grade 8) – helps develop the skills required to communicate the dramatic content of musical text by acting through song
  • LAMDA Group Recital is (available from Entry to Grade 3) – helps develop the skills necessary for creating and performing a programme of material for performance in a recital

Verse and Prose Anthology Volume 18

This anthology presents a variety of verse and prose pieces which learners can use for their own choice selections in Communication exams.

Introduced by Carol Ann Duffy, the former UK Poet Laureate, the Verse and Prose Anthology (Volume 18) offers a carefully chosen selection of poems and prose pieces from a variety of time periods and across several continents. The selections are ideal for speaking aloud, and the wide range of themes and styles offer something for every examination candidate, as well as the general reader. These pieces showcase the infinite possibilities of literature and the spoken word.

Acting Anthology Volume 3

This anthology presents a variety of scenes which learners can use as own choice selections for Acting exams from Entry Level to Grade 5. This is a collection of solo and duologue scenes from published plays, novels and books, as well as scenes which stand alone.

Introduced by LAMDA graduate David Suchet, the Acting Anthology (Volume 3) explores a wide range of styles and subjects, including scenes from classical and contemporary plays, original pieces, and scenes adapted from books. A brief outline of the context appears with each piece, to assist Learners in setting the scene. The stylistic and emotional variety of these scenes will encourage learners and aspiring actors to step into a world of theatrical excitement and accomplishment.

Musical Theatre Solo/Duo syllabus - valid from 1 January 2016

LAMDA’s Solo/Duo Musical Theatre exams are designed to develop skills in acting through song. Learners will learn how to communicate the dramatic content of musical text through performance, developing self-confidence, a strong singing voice and presentation skills. LAMDA’s Solo/Duo Musical Theatre examinations are recognised by Ofqual, the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation in England and the corresponding regulatory authorities in Wales and Northern Ireland.

Musical Theatre Group syllabus - valid from 1 January 2016

Designed for groups of three to 15 learners, LAMDA’s Group Musical Theatre examinations help to develop the skills necessary to communicate the dramatic content of musical text in a group. Learners will develop self-confidence, a strong singing voice, performance and presentation skills, and team-working skills. Available from Entry Grade to Grade 8, these examinations offer a great alternative to Solo/Duo Musical Theatre exams.

Monologues for Young Actors

This collection features original monologues and adaptations for young actors, which are suitable for use as own choice pieces in LAMDA Acting examinations at Entry Level, Level One and Level Two. The pieces appear in approximate order of difficulty, from easiest to hardest, and provide an exciting variety of characters and scenarios for young actors to explore. LAMDA’s Shakespeare examinations are designed to encourage learners to develop the skills required to perform a variety of speeches, poems and sonnets written by William Shakespeare. These exams offer an outlet for creative expression while also giving learners the opportunity to gain understanding of language and context.

This publication contains the syllabi for our Level One Award in Shakespeare, Level Two Award in Shakespeare and Level Three Certificate in Shakespeare. The Shakespeare exams reside on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
