Amanda Brennan is the author of The Craft of Screen Acting (2024) and The Energetic Performer: An Integrated Approach to Acting for Stage and Screen (2016). Amanda is an acting coach with a specialism in screen acting and has worked freelance on film and television projects. She runs an MA in Acting for Screen. Her work has involved preparing actors for casting, process and preparation for roles and on set coaching. She has developed an approach to screen acting which is rooted in the body. Her approach combines the ideas of Stanislavsky, Michael Chekhov and various body work practices such as Qigong and Energy techniques. She places the body at the heart of the training, seeking to encourage greater awareness, enriched receptivity, and a feeling of connection to the self, others and their environment.

Hear Amanda in conversation with Dr Jaq Bessell, the programme leader of GSA's BA (Hons) Acting. Jaq is the author of Shakespeare in Action for the Arden Shakespeare series, as well as several articles and book chapters on Shakespeare, directing, and actor training. She has directed numerous works in the UK, Europe and the States.

Together, Amanda and Jaq will talk about approaches to screen acting, and Amanda's experiences of coaching and supporting actors in their work. There will be ample time for questions from the audience.

All are welcome!
